"Orange Castle" (Orange Circle Tangle)

Orange Circle Tangle ("Orange Castle") by Megan O'Madadhain
My Orange Circle Tangle (nicknamed "Orange Castle" is part of my "Rainbow Circle Tangle" series. For this series I started by tracing a circle and then used circles to define the regions.

The good:

I like the sense of motion I feel when I look at this. I like the castle if I don't look at it too closely.

The bad:

I really don't like the color orange, especially so MUCH of it. It seems like something harsh and angry must be going on. Perhaps I should have added some red-orange to the mix at least. The perspective on the castle is not good -- first time I remember trying to draw perspective in 20 years and drawing it so small was even more tricky. I started with the weave pattern in the lower right. This is the first time I have tried to do a woven pattern (bottom right). I struggle with complicated geometric patterns and doing this so small and trying to shade it with different shades of orange without making (too many obvious) mistakes was brutal.

The nitty gritty:

The castle pattern is a simplified version of the "Skistel" Zentangle pattern. The dark upside-down black crown is based off of the "King's Crown" Zentangle pattern. The woven pattern is an attempt at the "Weave" Zentangle pattern. I think of the net pattern on the left as "fishing net" but it could also be considered a "Florz Variation" Zentangle pattern.

I used Tombow Dual Brush Markers and a Micron black pen, typically size "05" (0.5mm). Original is 4" x 4" ink on paper.
